2010 Pinewood Derby Rules.pdf

Our annual Pinewood Derby is coming up Saturday, January 23 2010, at Glaciers Edge Elementary School in Verona! Car weigh-in and impounding on Thursday, January 21 at the pack meeting at Glaciers Edge School; ALL cars racing on Saturday MUST be brought to, and impounded at the Thursday pack meeting. Set up and equipment testing will be on Friday January 22. If you did not pickup a car at the December pack meeting, pick one up from your Den Leader. We will be very strict about the rules, so please read them carefuly, and if you have questions, please feel free to ask your leader or a den leader from a older den.

One of the pack's digital scales will be available at the Verona Public Libary for about a week leading up to the weigh-in. Please try to weigh your car and get it set right before the Pack Meeting to ensure things go smoothly.

There are 100s of car building tips, decals, and extras out there. Search the internet for pinewood derby and you will be overwhelmed. HOWEVER, We want to keep it simple, keep the kids involved, and keep it fair. Please follow the rules above and ensure everyone has fun.

Bobcat Badge Worksheet

This worksheet could be used in a den meeting at home for scouts working on their Bobcat badge.
Bobcat is the first rank each scout must obtain, and then they start to work on the same badge as the rest of the den. So a new scout joining in Bear year will first work on the Bobcat, then on the Bear. Skipping the Tiger and Wolf.

Class A Uniform Inspection Sheet

Cub Scout Leader Book Resources

CubMaster.org has a online version of the Cub Scout Leader Book at http://cubmaster.org/virtualcubscoutleaderbook.asp. It covers it all from the history of scouting, core values, how to get parents involved, leader training, activity and meeting ideas, etc.

Cubmaster.org and its parent USScouts.org have troves of great detailed ideas, as well as "big picture" information.

One example is the great "PowWow Midway of Topics". A must visit for leaders and active scouting parents.

Scouting Summer Fun!

Last Week of School...but Scouting Fun Continues all Summer Long!!

In addition to camping, a definite highlight of any scout's summer, the following Pack 549 events are being planned. Mark your summer schedules so you won't miss the fun!

Hometown Days Parade - This Sunday, June 14th

Pack Olympics - Outdoor Pack Meeting on Thursday, June 18th

Raingutter Races - Thursday, July 23rd

Beach Bash - Thursday, August 27th

Details for each event will be communicated via Scout Track Email,

2009 Hometown Parade Info

Scouts (and their Leaders) are invited to march in the Hometown Days Parade, to take place this coming Sunday, June 14th. Scouts will march along with a decorated truck/trailer. The older scouts will likely take turns carrying the Pack 549 Banner.

Sunday, June 14th
Parade Line-up/Scout Arrival: 11-11:30 AM
Parade Begins at Noon
Class A Uniforms Required

Getting Your Scout There:
Legion St (behind Wildcat Lanes) will be the best route to our line-up location on S. Nine Mound Rd.
Look for entry #21...a truck, trailer with a tent, and scout uniforms...near Industrial Drive and the Bike Trail Crossing on S. Nine Mound Rd.
Plan to arrive between 11-11:30, as there will be closed roads and plenty of traffic to maneuver.

Picking Your Scout Up:
Discuss plans for meeting your Scout after they finish marching and/or at the end of the parade. (The parade route ends near Wildcat Lanes.)
Provide them with a cell phone and/or phone number to reach you as a precaution.

Other Important Details:
Class A Uniforms are required for all Scouts and Leaders marching. Consider the weather--undershirts for chill, raingear, etc.
Skateboards, scooters, Healy's, etc. are NOT appropriate.
Restroom visits (limited availability) and snacks (it will be lunch time) should be planned around the parade schedule. Water will be available.
Parade maps, in addition to any parade cancellation notices, can be found at www.VeronaHometownDays.com.

Blue & Gold now at Epic 3/26

Please note that there has been a CHANGE to our meeting location for our Blue & Gold Banquet on 3/26/09. It will be held at 6:00 pm at EPIC's Voyager Hall. I have attached a map here - please plan to park in the orange square as shown on the map. Voyager Hall is a horseshoe shaped building and you will enter the middle of it.

As you may recall, this banquet celebrates and awards all of the hard work that our 5th grade Cub Scouts have done over the past several years and marks the advancement to Boy Scouts for many of them. The Pack is providing pizza, cake and drinks and parents are to bring a salad or side dish to share.
