American Explorers Cub Scout Camporee: October 6-7, 2007

Hello everyone,
As School and Scouting begins in earnest, don't miss this exciting camping/day trip event, October 6-7: American Explorers Cub Scout Camporee at the Ed Bryant Scout Reservation near Mauston, WI. This event is open to all levels of Cub Scouts from new Tigers to Webelos, their siblings and their families. (Note: There is no formal programming for less than Cub Scout age kids so they may not be able to participate in all activities.)

The Camporee is an all-day hands one experience with living history stations, rendezvous re-enacters, games, crafts, shooting sports, and a campfire. There will be optional Saturday overnight camping with breakfast and morning chapel service on Sunday.
Important Facts:
  • Given the long drive to Mauston on Saturday morning, we highly encourage you to drive to Mauton on Friday night. We have arranged rooms at the Country Inn in Mauston on Friday night October 5 (indoor pool, $73 group rate). You must commit to staying by Wednesday, September 12th to be eligible for this discounted motel rate.
  • The Pack has committed $1000 to subsidize the cost of attending this Camporee. Based on prior year attendance at this event, it will probably be free or close to free for all who go.
  • Camping on Saturday night is optional, but not required. If the weather is poor or the family needs to be home early on Sunday you can leave after the campfire on Saturday and be home by 10:30 p.m. (or leave earlier and be home earlier, of course).
  • Attending a "Scout's Own Service", which is offered on Sunday morning, is either an achievement or an elective in both the wolf and bear books.
  • Check is on Saturday October 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for overnight campers and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for day visitors.
  • What to bring?: Appropriate clothing and rain gear if it is expected to be cold and wet Scouting goes on even it the weather doesn't cooperate! Participants are encouraged to add to programming by dressing in a costume representing an American explorer. If not in costume, Scouts and Scouters should wear Scout uniforms or Pack t-shirts.
  • Camping gear: If you are camping, bring a tent with ground cloth, sleeping bags and mats, blankets, change of clothing, personal gear and a flashlight. Because of the abundance of dry leaves in the fall and the large number of campers in close proximity, NO FIRES will be allowed in the campsites. Please leave cooking equipment at home.
  • Meals: Saturday lunch, supper, evening cracker barrel and Sunday breakfast will be provided. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available throughout the day.
Please let me know if you have any questions,
Hemanth Shenoi
Pack 549 Camping Coordinator

Resident Camp at Ed Bryant

Knights of the Roundtable Cub Resident Camp at Ed Bryant Scout Reservation Attached is the camp guide for the upcoming Cub Scout Resident camp. This camp is August 10 - 12. (Friday 1:00 pm check-in to Sunday 11:00 am). Rick Geese needs a volunteer to be the on-site camping coordinator. He will meet with whowever volunteers and pass along some additional information.
The Plan:
- Check in starts at 1:00 pm on Friday.
- Let's plan on meeting at 10:30 am at Badge Ridge Middle School in Verona with a leave time by 11:00 am.
- Plan on eating a lunch in your vehicles on the way up.
- I'm going to leave it to each of the parents to work out car pool arrangements.
- The camp has several trucks and trailers that will be used to transport our gear back to the campsites. We will unload our gear in the parking lot, the counselors will
haul the gear up to our campsite, while we hike in.
- There are three campsites, so we will likely be camping with other packs.
- All food will be prepared at the lodge. We won't be preparing any food at our camp.
- There is going to only be one swim area, so there are no swim tests as in other summer resident camps that we have attended.
- Attached is the guide with all the information.

Scout shop moving

Hi Everybody!

The scout shop will be closing it's Fitchburg location and moving on 7/25 (next Wednesday). I will be making arrangements with either the new east side location or with the Janesville office to be able to order by mail, but no arrangements have been set up yet.

If you know you'll be needing some belt loops and/or badges soon please send the request to me ASAP. I will make one last trip to the Fitchburg location next week. Otherwise you may have to wait until September to get anything.

Thank you!

Stacie Longino
